I have a 85 f-250 and I ran a test in the pump isolated by itself and it was only pulling 3 or 4 hav in. What should a pump be pulling on that truck. Also I've been looking on rock auto for vacuum pumps and there is a Dorman, and a A-1 Cardone both are with in a half dollar difference money wise. Which one be the better one to get.

Thanks and have a nice day
Mine reads 24 inches Hg at the brake vacuum booster hose, disconnected from the booster. I'm quite sure that none of the branches leak vacuum. I am at 96 ft. above sea level. At high elevations it'll probably read a bit lower.
I'm not certain but think a new one pulls about 28 in., or 26 -28 in.
Which one is better is a toss up. I looked at those about a week ago at Rock Auto to compare price with a fairly new one I found in a wrecking yard. Among those listed for 87, I recall that the first one was "Rebuilt." If they are "New" it probably doesn't make much difference. I've chosen A1 Cardone for a few significant parts. Not much from Dorman except for smaller stuff and I didn't have any complaints about those items.
Last part from Cardone was a new alternator. Tag says "Made in Mexico" which is usually OK in terms of quality. It had a very slight noise when I splun the shaft after swapping the pulleys. I had to Re-Clock it, screwed up and pulled the armature out past the brushes. When I got it back together and tightened the case screws it didn't make any noise so I figured the people who were assembling it at the factory were in a hurry.
I think a vacuum pump would be less critical than an alternator during assembly.
