Starter question

Hey guys, so I have a question as to what is the best brand of starter to use on my truck.
I have a 69' f250 with a 360 C6 auto.
I changed out the starter 3 mths ago, and yesterday the thing just quit. It was a reman from dash auto parts, which are always high quality parts, but I think either it was faulty or....?? When I removed it today, a chunk of metal fell out of the starter and there were a ton of shavings in the starter. The flywheel is in great shape, and I don't have an oil soak issue, so what could cause the starter to fail three months in? The solenoid and wiring is all new as well as the battery. Its just making me scratch my head why it looks like it imploded on the inside? I bought a Remy starter from crappy tire today with a 3 year warranty as I need the truck for work tommorow but any thoughts on brands that work best with the fe motors?

Usually remanufactured starters only have new brushes and nice paint. Buy a new one.

Best option would of been having the old one rebuilt.

Any brand name starter could be assembled on hang over Monday. The old OEM starters worked for yrs. then crappy rebuilds came a long from cheap auto parts stores.

Best to find a loco rebuilder an have them rebuild yours.

Like so many things these days if you want it done right, ya probably gotta do it yourself. There are rebuild kits available to include armature, bearings or bushings, brushes and such. They aren't rocket science. Don't core the bad one, rebuild it as time allows and keep it on the shelf. Alternators are the same, don't core an OEM, they are pretty easy to rebuild.

Thanks guys, maybe what I'll end up doing is grabbing a fomoco starter from the wreckers this week and have it rebuilt and keep it on hand for the next time this one conks out

Ford has started selling "New" starters for a lot of the older vehicles. So that is an option. I like to rehab my own starters when possible. The ford ones are tough do to how the brushes are held in. It makes it difficult but not impossible. It you can find a local shop to do a rebuild go that way.

May be if you had your state or city listed with your name many of us could tell you where they get there's rebuilt at.

I just visited the rebuilder the other day that, I use an had them check out a alternator out if it was working ok.

There is no substitute for the small local rebuilders, I am sure that there must be one in your area. I have no problem paying more. That "big box" junk is just a waste of time .

FE A/T & M/T starter same: 1963/76.

1958/62 FE A/T & M/T starter is different, as it uses the HUGE Bendix inertia starter drive, the armature is also different.

2X. I call them "spray and prays". Someone fixes the immediate problem with the core. Paints it up pretty. Then they pray you sell the vehicle before they have to warranty it.
You can dress up a pig, but it's still a Pig.

I have local place ( A real hole in the wall) rebuild place for starters and alternators. They have done fantastic work for me, starter/ alternator for a 560SL , 1960 Massey Ferguson tractor, to a club car gas cart. Never took one back for a repair afterwards.
