IMHO, if the OP is considering the 6.7 and also the possibility of upgrading campers in the future, then an F350 SRW should be considered. The diesel is heavy, and really cuts into the cargo carrying capacity, especially the decked out Super Duty models that are already heavy. Of course we all know about camper creep, don't we ??
Thanks again all for the additional info. I had forgotten about the rumored new 7.x Ford is working on to replace the current HD Gas engines. That certainly may be an option once more details are known. I tow a 30FT Airstream TT that weighs in at 8800 max GVWR. No plans to upgrade beyond this. Will customize it down the road as needed rather than replace. For me, it about getting the most capable truck I can while I still can . Thanks!
I was at a Chevy dealership yesterday test driving a diesel Colorado. We went around the lot looking at full size Chevy's just to see what kind of deals they were offering. They had like $9K off sticker price on the 2500 LT Duramax. The thing that caught my eye was the DEF tank under the passenger side door. It has a steel plate shield and plastic covering, but there is no way I would buy that truck for off road use. Just my honest first impression and personal point of view when I saw that. Not sure what Ford dealers in your area offering right now, but I have seen dealers advertising $6K discounts on Super Dutys.
Keep in mind that the Bosch CP4.2 pump that failed on your GMC is essentially the same one that Ford is still using on the 6.7 and Ford has experienced similar failures. The difference is how Ford handles the warranty. If you read through these forums, you'll find that Ford is more likely to blame the customer for bad fuel or improper maintenance and stick you with the 10-12K repair bill.
Someone shared the official Ford diagnosis document on here a while back and as you read it, it is almost impossible to go through the document without the diagnosis blaming the customer.
Yea, I know. I read it all and it did give me pause, for sure. I seriously considered going GM again since they don't use them anymore. But after the way GM treated me, I just couldn't bring myself to give them any more money. Hopefully, lightning won't strike twice. My Denali was very nice, but I'm much happier in this truck. GM will catch up, but right now Ford is way ahead inside the cab, imo.
