Transmission question

I own a 2014 F250 SC 4X4 with the venerable 6.2. What model of transmission is Ford using in these? I was under the impression it was the same tranny as the diesel 6.7, maybe not? The truck runs fantastic just curious on the transmission..

Thanks

Pretty much? Is there any difference at all? I was under the impression it was the exact same transmission, bellhousing bolt pattern and all.

If there is ANY difference, I would like to know.

My understanding is that through MY2016, the diesel version of the 64140 was available with a PTO option, but the gas version was not. Installed transmissions were identified by codes "P" (gas model) and "W" (diesel model) for MY2016.

For MY2017, trans code "P" is used in the 350 6.2 6R140, and code "W" is used in the F250/350 diesel 6R140 (check the silver cert label on your truck's B pillar for the "TR" code). The gear ratios are the same for both, and I suspect most components are as well. Code "S" is used to identify the 6R100 AT used in the 2017 F250 6.2.

However, page eight of the 2017 Super Duty sales brochure suggests the gas version of the 6R140 contains lighter-duty front- and rear gear carriers, perhaps as a (small) cost savings effort. I also suspect the control software is different for the P and W models to allow for better application compatibility between the two engines' essential characteristics (rpm ranges, torque curves, etc.).

This is all I've been able to find so far.

HTH,
Jim / crewzer

here is an article that explains the differences quite well..

"How does Ford adapt the transmission for each engine? The 6R140 uses a different torque converter, clutch plates, friction paper and shift schedule software calibrations depending on the motor. That’s it."

you have a 6r140 same as diesel, the torque converter is different , clutch plates , friction paper, and shift calibration is different from the 6.2 to 6.7 other than that it is the same
