Hey there's guys, brand new to this this forum so not sure if this belongs here bit.... my father has a 1993 f350 dually 2wd.... don't get me started on that.... but we were loading a good load of Hey, and the tranny smoked slightly.. we didn't know that was it at the time but needless to say once we were loaded, on route, and within 10 min of home we smoked the tranny. Fluid was everywhere dumping from by the bell housing. Looked like the worst read main leak ever. Is it totally smoked? Or is it salvageable. We stopped as soon as it acted up. Any help would be huge, diagnostics without pulling it would be great but more than comfortable doing it once I finish the clutch on my path finder.. lol.
Could it have been low on fluid from the start? I had that happen on a '91 Ranger. Smoked the fluid, pouring out the top tube. Very messy. I had the transmission rebuilt but I think if I had simply topped off the fluid it would have continued to work.
Did you spend a lot of time in reverse by any chance. Auto trans HATE going backwards...no cooling. I do know that if you have 4-wheel drive that if you go to LOW LOW reverse it doesn't dump fluid out the fill tube. I had a '92 250 IDI diesel.
Definitely was full of fluid when we started, was driving forward at the time too. I don't think we reversed at all actually. it doesn't respond when you take it in and out of gear either so I think it's just pooched.
