Block Heaters

Sitting on the side of the road right now waiting for a tow. I was slowing down to turn a corner, jacked the throttle to maybe 4500 rpm to shift down and I start to smell antifreeze. Pulled over and popped the hood and saw that the block heater was pissing coolant. About 8 months ago the same thing happened - the block heater bends the tab and pops out enough to leak coolant. After it happened this winter, I installed a new block heater and a 7 pound radiator cap.

What am I doing wrong? I've never had a block heater pop out before let alone twice.

Interesting

I don't have an answer for you, but I am interested in any thoughts on this, I put a block heater in my build last year and haven't had any problems. When you say 'bends the tab' are u just talking the wing nut tab that tightens up when you turn the nut on the heater ? What freeze plug hole did you use ?

Yup, just bent the chinzy wing nut thing. It's in the front hole on the passenger side.

Can't tell you why, but from your location I can tell why you have one. I'm in Calgary. I put an oil pan heater on mine. It is warm oil you really need, and since they apply to the outside of the oil pan you don't have to worry about a leak.
