Towing decrease from 2016 to 2017 on F350 CC 4X4 SRW SB 6.7L TD
Hi everyone. I am new to towing and I am stressing out a bit after comparing the towing capacity of the 2017 F350 Crew Cab, Short Bed, Single Rear Wheel, 4X4, with the 6.7L Turbo Diesel with the 2016. The 2016 version of the same truck has a max towing weight of 15,700 and the 2017 is 13,600!!
I was looking for a 2016 and then I found an awesome deal on a 2017 with only 1100 miles on it. I jumped on it given the room I had based on my research on the 2016 models. All of the literature speaks of increased towing, but the towing guide is showing a significant decrease! 2,100 pounds is almost a 15% drop in towing ability!
I purchased a 5th wheel with an empty weight of 12,422 lbs, a GVWR of 14,995, and a hitch weight of 2,564 lbs. My sicker has a max load of 3,821 and based on the below calculations I feel like I am right at the upper limit on load, but the GVWR is 1,400 over the 2017 numbers, but on the 2016 it would be 700 under.
3,821 Max Load from sticker on door
-2,564 Pin Weight from Brochure
1,257
- ,515 People weight round up
742
- ,100 Hitch weight rounded up (Pull Rite Auto Slider)
642 Left
Is there something that I am missing? Why would the max towing decrease so much?!?
My ultimate question is how screwed am I?
Thanks for the input!!

The 5th wheel rating of the 2017 F350 SRW crew cab, 4x4 is 20,600# with a combined weight rating of 28,700#. So the 5ver rating actually went up 4900#. You didn't make it to the bottom of the chart and missed the actual ratings of the 17. Your new 2017 is MORE than enough for your new 5th wheel. Enjoy...

No worries! I'm running the same truck... a 2017 SRW 350, CC, SB, 6.7, 4x4. I tow a rather large toy hauler with it. It goes anywhere from 17-20k depending on if the garage and tanks are full but due to forward axle placement, has a light enough tongue weight to be SRW compatible. This truck tows it like an arrow.
Anyways, welcome to FTE... and post up some pics of the new combo!

That is because the 5th wheel hitch Ford markets for the SRW is 18k rated. GN rating is 20.6k which is the same as what your 5th rating will be if you run a 5th hitch rated higher. Run a 24-27.5k from Reese or Curt and your 5th rating is 20.6k.
