I've seen this done on a 72 chev a buddy had years ago where he put a newer style chev step side on and it looked pretty cool.
Yes, it will fit as they are 6 3/4 feet long (IIRC). I know of a 69 F-260 Ranger just down the road with an 80-98 LB on it. You will have to drill new holes due to the wider frame width of the new beds.
Just my opinion, but you ruin a classic truck by putting an 80s bed on it. Its not my thing, but if it is yours... go for it.... post pics when you are done
