My 02 F150 4x4 at times gets a shake through the steering when hitting road cracks, pothole fills, etc. Would installing a steering damper system help or am I missing something to check in the front end. Ball joints are good, all steering linkage good, new shocks all around, control arm bushings look good and don't seem to shift when prying with a bar. Also changed all sway bar bushings and links. Maybe the control arms just have to be changed with 103,000 miles on it even if they appear OK?
Anyone else using an aftermarket steering damper on a stock F150? My long gone 82 GMC 4x4 had one from factory but it was also a solid axle setup.
if you were talking about off road, then maybe a stabilizer would help.... A STOCK 2002 F150 should have no shake when hitting road cracks or pot holes...... Your missing something... I normally put a jack under the A frame on each side and jack each tire an inch off the ground.. That leaves all the suspension parts in line as they would be running down the road. Then grab one tire and jerk it side to side in and out and note any slop between it and the other tire.. Could be small differences causing the problem....... then put a 4 ft 2 x 4 edge under the tire and pry up and down and inch or two.. feel for any movement in the upper and lower ball joints.. Something is not quite right.
