You will also want to do the oil modification to the number one main bearing saddle. Look up http://tmeyerinc.com for this mod it really helps with the oil pressure problem this engine family has. He also sales parts such as the correct piston to raise the compression to about 9 to 1, and also add some squish to help with detonation.

Reason: changed wording
I thought I read that the stock heads flow was okay just the compression was low. Im not looking to be as cheap as possible but at what point in time do i just buy a crate motor and be done? new heads are gonna set me back about 2400 it looks like, almost the cost of a crate...
i am hoping to be able to pull the heads, new gaskets, lifters and springs, reuse the valves hopefully and be good. I dont need insane power just fun, i think $2.5k on heads is too much for me right now. From what I have read, with a spring compressor I should be able to assemble this myself.
Sounds a lot like the engine plan for my 351C, except I used 302 Cleveland heads - the Aussie only 58cc closed chamber 2V heads, hehe. With a .505"/219'@.050" camshaft, Weiand X-Celerator intake and Holley 600 vac 4bbl it hoots along pretty well.
I'm using the 'Streetfire' ebay cheapie HEI distributor and have had absolutely no problems, it works well and sparks hard so I'm not complaining at all.
Here's a shot of her running, I would imagine your build being very similar.

Ya I'd be swapping the reciprocating assembly to 400 parts long before I bought Aluminum heads.
