Have installed Edelbrock Performer 390 (4V) intake on my '74 360...currently with original 2100 2V via adapter plate; runs well, good economy...considering 4V options including new Edelbrock or an OEM-type...what 4V's were OEM? just holley? I like the idea of an OEM look/function
nothing for a 360, but 390 probably had the autolite, like a 4300 or something. Probably not a great carb, but would think a holley vacuum secondary 4 barrel would work good, 600, 650, 670, or so. I bet one of the motocraft holley 600 cfm from a 460 would run good and look close to right.
after the 2100 and 2150 2V's, my clymer manual shows a 4160 and 4180, which are holley 4V's, and searching the 4180 on ebay indicates it's for the 460....so probably the 4160 was used on the 390....however, i've also seen some motorcraft 4V's on there from the mid-70s that use a tube from exhaust like the 2100 does...but the book doesn't detail those....maybe just used on cars? what's a '74 390 going to have?
To make the truck appear as OEM of the period, it will need a HOLLEY short bowl. The HOLLEY OEM 4180 was an emissions carburetor and while can be modified for more performance a modern replacement HOLLEY (600cfm) would be easier and cheaper.
Are you planning on retaining any of the emission controls (or not)?

ALL 1968/73 390 and 1968/78 360's came with 2V's. 1974/76 390's were available with 2V's or optional 4V's.
I meant what would be OEM w/390 in a 4V (?)...I believe the 360 can benefit from a 4V with aftermarket manifold...the engine originally used an EGR carb spacer, but the Performer 390 is non-EGR, and i don't know of any EGR-compatible 4V aluminum manifold available for this engine...a new 600 Holley seems a good option- one hassle with an Edelbrock carb would look to be the different area where fuel connects
