I have a 1997 Explorer and the dash lights don't work? I have checked the normal fuses, bulbs, etc and have not had any success. Has anyone had the same problem? More importantly, does anyone have any suggestions for fixing / troubleshooting? Thanks in advance! Kevin
Are all the dash lights out, or just some of them? If all are out, and all the fuses are good, I would suggest checking the interior switch roller. I highly doubt all the bulbs in the dash blew at the same time...
ALL of the dash lights are out. However, the lights in the readio still work and will dim with the dimmer switch. What do you mean check the dimmer switch? IS is possible that the seitch would keep the dash lighst from working while still working the radio lights? HELP!!!!
The dash lights and the radio illumination will be separate. If you remove the dash panel, check the wiring on the back of the switch for which one gos to the dash lights. Make sure you have power going to the dash lights from the switch.
Thanks alot for the information. Just one point of clarification: are you talking about the dimmer switch or the light switch itself? The one that turns on the parking and head lights or the dimmer switch? I can only imagine that the light switch would send power to the dimmer switch in order for it to be able to dim the lights in the first place - right? Is that one of those "duh" kind of questions? Thanks again!
Many thank for the replies. The problem with the dash lights being out was the dimmer switch. And to think that the Ford dealership couldn't figure it out...???
