I just recharged my Factory AC system already converted to 134A after I had a condenser leak and replaced it. O'reilly's lifetime warranty came in handy there. Pulled a vacuum and followed all the procedures to charge.
At idle or low speed cruise the compressor rattles like a bad rod bearing. Is this normal? I would like to check the oil level in the compressor and it is my understanding that it can be isolated without discharging to do so.
Anybody know what position the valves need to be screwed to, in or out and if the bolt on the top is how you check oil level?
Here's a link to the service manual for the York A/C compressor.
The procedure to check the oil level is on page 7. http://www.240.se/litteratur/york.pdf
Ok thanks I found the procedure in my ford manual as well. I isolated the compressor with the service valves and I managed to not drain enough pressure out the high pressure service port and lost enough threads that the oil plug went flying to outer space, who knows where in my garage. I cannot find it now and need to know what the thread size is so I can try to find a replacement? It was a 1/2" hex size.
By the way oil was really low I hope I didn't damage the bearings bad. I was planning a to do the serpentine conversion with a new compressor but not now.
My daily just blew the motor and now tranny too after replacing the motor.
