Question 2003 7.3 Excursion 4x4 Price

Hello,

One of my neighbors has a 2003 4x4 Excursion with 102k miles. He had a lift kit professionally installed about 2 years ago. I briefly looked at it a few days ago. It is a extremely clean with no rust. He want $16k for the truck. Is that a fair price

I'll buy it as long as its not a rust belt truck !!

Depends on condition, but miles are right. Where's it at?

Yeah it really depends on condition. If it's super clean that's a good buy. If it's in average condition it might be a little high but it depends on the market where you live too.

It's in Md, but the guy rarely drives it. I'm going over it more thoroughly on Sunday. Hopefully, the batteries will be charged and I'll drive it

I would pay that in a heart beat as long as no rust and in good condition. Pics would be helpful if you can get any...

Have all the normal wear items for this truck been recently replaced? This includes the suspension, all of the steering, the brake lines and calipers, the transmission, maybe an injector or two, the injector electrical line valve cover passthrough/gasket, ...

If so it sounds like a great deal. If none then it sounds too high. Figure out what's been done and price it accordingly. Personally I would start around $20k for a truck that is exactly as new with all of the above wear work done, brand new tires, all new fluids, paint job perfect, etc. and then start subtracting for all of the work that will need to be done if not immediately then soon including the items mentioned above.

For a truck with 100k on the clock, none of these are "normal wear items".

do not let "professionally installed lift" fool you. I've seen plenty of "professionals" with poor workmanship install crappy parts. Confirm what was done and the quality of work.

lift kits mean diddly price wise to me. I actually deduct price for them. and unless the tires are brand new, they don't mean anything either as larger tires are pricey as well compared to OEM 265/75R16 rubber

At 17yrs old, she is going to have a bunch of issues needing addressed. I just got a 2000 V-10 last month myself with 91,000 miles. It is in really good condition with all electrical items working. But quite a few items needing addressed due to age (even with low miles). Suspension repairs and new tires has me about $1,000 in the hole right now. Probably another $500 before I can consider the suspension back to "like new" condition.

long winded...but we need pictures and hopefully some maintenance history. I personally wouldn't touch it for that price unless everything was new or like new, and every single thing worked. Essentially you just drive and enjoy with the exception of oil changes and tire rotations

I agree on the lift sentiments. Too many are done wrong or with shoddy work. I would deduct for the lift and more expensive to replace tires as well (MUCH more expensive). Price is about right if everything checks out.

Those cheap 6" lift kits don't look right, too high. I walked away from two of those when looking for the last ex. Too high to get into comfortably as well day to day.

It may not have a bunch of issues. My X is over maintained. All fluids have been replaced way more often than most people change oil! (Ok maybe not but you get the idea) Trans fluid and rear diff every 25k, brake fluid, coolant and P/S fluid at 50k along with the front diff and T/case. Plugs done at 50k and again a few months ago at 94k. Fuel pump replaced when I changed out the hitch. Front hubs done when I did the front ujoints. I even just replaced the drivers seat bottom due to some aging/cracking. So not all older vehicles wil need work. In fact I'm leaving in 2 weeks on a 2 week trip to Yellowstone, Tetons and Colorado Springs.

As with anything you have to look it over closely.

Prices are all over the place on 7.3 Ex. Just for reference I paid 18k for mine with 190k. Mine had several little issues, but I made the mistake of purchasing it without looking at it. I am sure I paid bit more then I should have but it was the color And equipped with what I wanted. That was 7 years ago, still content and satisfied with the purchase.

Pictures are always good, 2003 7.3s are not easy to find. So I am sure you are paying a little bit for that also if the seller knows what he/she has.
