It sounds like you have a solid plan and are comfortable with your decision.

Of course we are all "rooting for the 7.3L" because we really like them. But your truck should match YOUR needs and wants.

Having spent so much time in the 7.3L world and making so many contacts with people to help support you in the 6.0L world will be a great help.

Given the same budget and time, if I were making a choice today, may go with a 6.0L, as I keep hitting "must upgrade" to get my 7.3L to do what I want it to.

But if I chose a 6.0L as my first Powerstroke, where upgrades were a "must to avoid implosion" ... yeah, it might have been a big mistake and my last Ford.

You certainly wouldn't be going in with blinders on. I think when the time is right and you find the right truck, you'll do well. Be sure to post us up a link to your build thread when you do

Well, I've done more searching, and it definitely looks like I'm looking at about a 2-year saving/investment plan while keeping the 7.3 going in the meantime. The prices for the 2011-2012 year models are just outside of what I've comfortable committing to right now.

Having said that, I remain perfectly peaceful with the entire decision with the one minor exception that I have to WAIT. Patience is said to be a virtue, and I have at times not been very virtuous in that regard. We shall see.

I often say, "Patience is a virtue but it isn't one of mine".

I had the same dilemma last year, I was offered a very low mileage 2005 Harley F350, good service history, never towed or tuned, I loved the way it drove & in the end it was the rear captains seats being unsuitable for our dog that made me decide to stick with my 7.3.
A week ago I bumped into the guy who bought the HD truck, it's suffered chronic egr cooler failure & he's waiting to find out how bad things are, definitely dodged a bullet on that one.

I, too, have been looking into an update lately - namely I have hit a spot where both trucks decide to misbehave at the same time burning me out. I wanted a truck with some extra amenities and that won't need work done to it every night.

I found a nice '14 6.7 in my price range, but ended up talking myself out of it. I have found that for about $2000 I can do the interior/cluster swap, and keep an engine I can work on. That way I get the best of both worlds (Counter-intiutive to me just saying I don't want the extra work, but I'm willing to put a little work in to save ~$30k).

I may do the same as you though, been looking into a 460 swap for the 91...

The owner is lucky he bent a rocker arm and not a connecting rod. Good video though. I also wish that host would stop saying "hyDRAULicked" and say hydro-locked instead.

Also sulfur doesn't add the lubricity to fuel that people think it does.

Correct. It's not the removal of the sulfur which reduces lubricity, it's the fact that the lubricity-contributing aromatics are reduced as a result of processing the fuel at the higher temperatures required to reduce the sulfur. In other words, the reduced lubricity is "collateral damage" incurred while reducing the sulfur... an unintended bad result of being forced to reduce sulfur.

Wow, I must be one of the most satisfied 7.3 owners on this forum. I have no desire for another truck for myself.
Oddly enough, there are fronts on some years of the newer SD trucks that look unappealing to me.

The only thing I want different is less noise and the KR interior. Otherwise, I very much still LOVE my truck! I have also grown tired of the periodic work on it and the fact that the suspension (and probably a growing list of electronics) is ready for "round 2" on their replacement life spans. There are simply other things I would rather be spending my time with at this point in my life.

Not that odd. Although I will admit the 6 leaker front end looked good enough. Went down hill a bit with the 6.4 model, and absolutely dove off a cliff with the 6.7. When I got my 16, I replaced the big, chrome, horizontal bucktooth bars on the grill with the black ones from an XL and tried to hide the huge headlights behind a front bumper replacement with grill guard attached. I don't really care for the look of the 17's either, and dislike the interior even more.

Then again, I had a ranch hand replacement on my 02 so it's kind of a habit thing for me.

David, you are not alone. I love my truck and do not plan to ever get rid of it. I do however plan to get 160/80 injectors when my stock injectors start to fail. Then I plan to get a new 66mm turbo by KC to top it off. Other than that, it is regular maintenance and fixing things that are tired form 17 years of being a bad *** truck.
