I have a 1999 Explorer V6. Auto parts store diagnostics came up with an error code PO 455. I have read posts at this web site referring to leaky gas caps and rusted charcoal canisters. I am on the right trail? Help needed, thanks
You're right. The code P0455 is an evaporative emissions code. And there's a whole slew of testing procedures. The first thing to check is the gas cap. Try rubbing some grease on the O-ring, and see if that helps. Replacements are cheap, if you think that it's leaking pressure.
There's also a purge solenoid that gives trouble. It's located above the spare tire, and tends to get corroded.
