Welcome to FTE larrymac. Some here are quick to urge you to just search for the info before posting. I've always found the search feature here to be somewhat lacking.
For the type of oil, use one on the approved list in the link above. Depending on how you drive it and where you live, will affect which choice of oil weight you go with. The owners manual will help some, but give us more details and we can offer advice too. Personally, I'm using a 15w-40.
There is an oil life monitor in the truck that many here trust. I don't yet, but mine is still fairly new too. I went 6,000 miles on my last change, and the vehicle health report said I had less than 20% remaining. I meant to take a sample to send in for analysis, but had an issue with a bit of a mess so I got sidetracked and didn't get the sample.
Do you have the fancy radio set up in your truck that can run the vehicle health report?

The reason most say use the search function on oil is it becomes a battle over who's oil is best and becomes a three page repeat of the past threads. There were two oil threads going at the same time last week and every ones is the best. Use the owners manual and do a little research. You'll actually learn a lot more and quicker that way.

I know how the mine is better than yours aspect can, and does go. But the reality is, the owners manual doesn't say anything about Ford's position on the new motor oils. I can't even find the document on their public website.
What I read was a new user looking for confirmation he wasn't going to screw something up by doing this himself. The reality is, he's less likely to screw it up himself than trusting some of these idiot oil change places (including the dealers).

I was referring to the oil weight vrs. driving conditions in the manual. Then go to the search function. And yes, I do not trust the quick lubes. The OP could probably read oil threads for a month and not read them all. This thread would be a rehash.
