I know alot of us have been using Photobucket to host our pictures , well all good things come to an end .
from what i have heard a new owner is being aggressive to make more $$
so any third part hosting is now a premium . In my case they want $399. a year so I can post my pics on forums!
So they just motivated me to host my own photo's
I have two options
1) I have a Western Digital NAS that says it can do FTP , so i am looking into if this will work with some port forwarding thru my router
2) I have an old 2 core Dell PC , Install Ubuntu server and use that
both options should be $0.00 in hardware and just time to do the set up .
sample of pics now
Yep, I discovered the same thing yesterday, when I was going to include a photo in a post at Fordification.
Fortunately, here, I can post pictures directly through this forum and don't need a separate photo hosting site.
The down side is I have a lot of photos on Photobucket that I can't get back --at least not without paying a 'ransom' for them and a lot of my earlier posts here that had Photobucket hosted photos are going to show up with that error message, instead of the picture that used to be there.
Well all picture links are working again .
so either P/B got scared of all the negative feedback on their move to make money
or they got hacked and that was a hacker trying to get $$
or they are still working on the money maker and block is just lifted while they work the bugs out.
On P/B site there is an under construction type message , so I am thinking the later of the options to be true
I just checked my Photobucket account. None of the many photos I have on there shows up.
Anywhere I've ever posted a photo off of Photobucket just shows up with this now:
I guess my Photobucket account has officially kicked the bucket now. Many of my photos on there are irreplaceable but, they'll not get a penny out of me. It was a "free" hosting site with links they provided to be able to share the photos.
The message I got when I tried to post a photo yesterday said,
Well duh! They provided a "free" photo hosting site with the means to post the photos to forums that was sponsored through advertising. Now, they want to charge people. Same thing happened when I used to have an Image Shack account and lost all those photos before going to Photobucket.
imageshack , wow I forgot about them . Didn't they shut down suddenly and anyone with pics on their site just lost them . I just use P/B for hosting all my pics are safe on a pc and backed up to a NAS . I learned the hard way a long time ago .
