OK, I have been through the tech tips and tested what I could. The pick up rivets were loose and the reluctor dug into it. I figured I found the problem. No luck. The coil is putting out 6.7 volts to the top of the cap with key on. Still no spark at plugs. I just do not get it. 83 Ford F100 302. all stock
Take your meter and put the red lead on the coil negative, and put the black lead on ground. Get someone to crank it over. Does the voltage go up and down when it is cranked?
That's not good. The voltage should go up and down, that is the ignition module turning the coil on and off. It grounds the neg of the coil, and then ungrounds it to make the spark.
I would do some checks on the pickup module inside the distributor. In this link are the resistance checks you can do on the module inside the dist.
OK, I got to the bottom of the issue. I wanted to share for others. The pick up in the distributor became loose and the reluctor slam into it. This caused the pins on the reluctor to shear off. Thus, the reluctor was not spinning and the circuit would not open and close. I replace the distributor just in case the shaft was also damaged. Fired rght up.
