What Is It? Do I Need It?
This is in a '74 4x4. Located between fuel pump and carb. Haven't been able to find anything in shop manual (probably not looking hard enough) or online. It's seen better days as you can probably see. A 429 is going in hopefully in about a month.
Should I keep it?
If "yes," keep as is or look for something in better condition??

If it is tied into the fuel line, it would be a fuel cooler. I have never heard of a factory fuel cooler on a Dent or any other gasoline vehicle.
On a return style fuel system, where part of the flow goes back to the tank, a cooler can help keep tank temps down. Sometimes used on diesels.
On a Dent system, I cannot see any benefit. By the time the fuel is past the pump it is pressurized. Also, could be a hazard and vulnerable to debris.

As Blue and White says, gasoline fuel coolers aren't all the rage but I could see someone repurposing a power steering cooling in a possibly misguided attempt to fix vapor lock.
