Hydraulic clutch question

I have a '92 F-150 2wd with I-6 and 4-speed + od manual. Today the clutch pedal stayed on the floor when I depressed it to change from rev to 1st. I lifted it up with my toe and it worked ok after that. I have noticed lately that it has developed a squeak when I release it. The truck has 156,000 mi on it. the clutch was replaced around 112,000 mi. and the master cylinder and slave cylinder for the clutch were replaced around 120,000 mi. Does anyone know if today's episode was a fluke or do I have a problem starting?

Hydraulic clutch question

What you are describing happened to me when I needed to replace my slave cylinder, pedal stayed low to the floor and became hard to press. If it does not occur again it could have been a fluke or at least you hope. Could be the slave cylinder they are known for being pieces of crap. Hope you figure it out, good luck

Hydraulic clutch question

I had a squeaky pedal on my clutch. I lubricated the pedal linkage with white lithium grease...no more squeak.

Hydraulic clutch question

well, i had a problem like this(actually it was a whole string of problems..heh). one thing to keep in mind(if its the same as my truck, an 88 with a 300i6 and hydraulic clutch) is to check the actual bracket that holds the clutch and brake pedal to the firewall. its a big piece of junk, its really thin and is prone to cracking. mine did and it eventually broke in half, resulting in no clutch...and a 35 mile drive to the parts department that had it...with no clutch...upshiftins easy...down is a lil tricky though, even had to start it in gear. i know im ramblin, sorry. another area to check(happened to me too) is the little plastic piece that attaches the clutch to the rod comin out of the clutch master cylinder. if it gets totally broken, the clutch will stay on the floor. also, there are bushings that are contained in the aforementioned bracket that could squeak i guess(mine were totally fragged, i replaced them). but anyway, good luck with it and i hope this can save a few people a headache later on.

Hydraulic clutch question

Thanks all for the tips. Now I have some things to look for. I don't know if this makes any difference or not, but I forgot to mention that when the clutch pedal was stuck down I could not put the trans. into any gears. Like it was stuck in neutral.

Check the fluid level in the master. I had the same problem once and turned out to be low fluid. I topped off the master and bleed the system and had no more problems.

Hydraulic clutch question

About 2 years ago, the firewall cracked around where the pedal connects. The mechanic bolted up a a plate around the pedal to help stiffen up the firewall. Have had no problems since.

I checked the master cylinder fluid level tonight. It was down maybe 1/8", not enough to be the problem. Did top it off though as a precaution.

Hydraulic clutch question

OK, here it is a month later and now the truck has 158,000 miles on it and the darn clutch pedal went to the floor this morning and stayed there. Same as before, I was shifting from rev to 1st and it stuck in neutral. I pulled the clutch pedal up with my toe and then it worked fine. Any suggestions are appreciated.
