While doing my first wax job on my 2017 F350, found to my surprise that there is a LOT of flex in the tailgate just above the Ford emblem, almost to the point of a panel being loose. It must push in a half inch or so! Checked my 2001 F350 parked nearby and found no flex at all when pressure is applied by my hand.
I just went out to the paring lot to check mine and there is some flex to the panel. I get a fair amount as well, not half inch but a good 5/16-3/8. I wouldn't concern myself with it to much, doesn't seem like it would cause any issues.
I did the same last weekend. Noticed a lot of flex on the hood and roof as well. Must be an aluminum body thing. I think next time I'll build a scaffold around it to make it easier. These are tall-a** trucks with seemingly acres of surface to be waxed. Started out Saturday and made the mistake of simultaneously opening the first beer with the commencement of the detailing which assured the failure to complete task at hand. Note to self: Pay somebody to do this next time.

Yep, I always wait till the end is in sight before opening that 1st one. If doing something like brakes, never till finished and test driven.

Damn, guess I'll have to fall on my sword for you. Tell you what, I'll only charge you 10 bucks to drink that beer you provide and watch you wax BOTH of our trucks... Thanks, bro..... I'll make this sacrifice this one time.

Sage advice sir. Fortunately for the motoring public doing anything that requires hand tools on a vehicle is above my pay grade and I leave it alone.

LOL. I guess I did leave that open to interpretation. If you drink beer while I wax both trucks you will be one inebriated son-of-a-gun! I'm old and slow.
