Satin panel on Platinum tailgate.

I am about to take delivery on a 2015 Platinum F350. Does anybody know if the satin panel on the Platinum tailgate is removable, and if so, can it be done without damaging the paint below?

Thanks,
Joe M.

Back in my Silverado days, we called that panel the Gum Wrapper, because it looked like one and actually made the truck look cheaper rather than better. It was help on with double-back mounting tape and was easily removed by heating with a hair dryer to loosen up the adhesive. There were many of us that pulled them off in this manner. Although it does bend up the Gum Wrapper, it was just going into the recycle pile anyway.
There was one fellow that pulled his and claimed there was a dent in the tailgate underneath the gum wrapper - so he thought that the silverados many have gotten tailgates that somehow failed QC. I never heard of another case like that, but thought I better let you know.
I don't know if the Platinum Gum Wrapper is held on the same way or not. I know it is the one of the things I would change if I were to have bought a platinum.. Certainly a matter of personal preference..

I would imagine it has locating holes just like the Ford emblem. Do you think they trust a line worker to get each and every Satin piece on exactly like each other?

Love mine,it makes it standout. Can't believe you would want to take it off,but to each their own.

I can take it or leave it. But since it's part of the Platinum package, I'll leave it. Never really gave it much thought.

It is held in place by location holes.Hundreds of them.It can be done but you`re left with a tailgate that looks like Swiss cheese.

I have never been a fan of the aluminum panel and do not particularly like it on my Platinum Superduty. That said I probably won't remove it for fear I will screw something up. I am also afraid it my devalue the truck when I sell or trade it. Someone might really want the panel on it.

Holy cow that is pretty ugly... I'd take the gum wrapper until something aftermarket appears that looks better...

Now I know why they cost so much. Adding all those holes can't be cheap.

Holy crap!!!

When I said I would imagine there are locator holes, I was think maybe 6 holes, not 60. Talk about overkill.

Paint the brushed part of it the same color as the truck and leave the polished bar... Less bling, cool look!

You could even mess around with the "Dip you car" stuff, since it comes off easy enough. THat way you'll know whether you like the look or not.

I could careless either way about it too.
