Oil Confusion

I drive a 95 F-250 with a 5.8l engine. I have made the switch to Mobil 1 synthetic. After the switch I started talking to to a friend about the proper oil weight. I have been using 5w30. I have been hearing though that because of the age of my truck I should go heavier. Just looking for a little guidance, oil weight isn't my strong suite.

I'd use the manufacture recommended weight unless you're having low oil press issues or high oil temps due to usage.

Ford says you can use 5w20, I personally use 10w30 in my 5.0 with 201k miles.

5w30 is ok, just make sure you change often and dont go over if you have higher miles.

After 150k I go every 3k miles or 4k if im using synthetic.

Usually run 10-30, thought it was what the manual called for. Have to see if I can dig it out.

Mobil 1 5w30 will be just fine. You could go 0w30 with ill effect, it'll just start easier. If you are in a hot area, Delvac 1 5w40 should give a bit more protection at higher temperatures. But if it runs fine with the 5w30, keep using it. Oils have gotten much better than when these trucks were made.

The 5.8 has a roller cam, so you need not worry about ZDDP levels like us 4.9 guys with flat tappet cams.
