I drive a 95 F-250 with a 5.8l engine. I have made the switch to Mobil 1 synthetic. After the switch I started talking to to a friend about the proper oil weight. I have been using 5w30. I have been hearing though that because of the age of my truck I should go heavier. Just looking for a little guidance, oil weight isn't my strong suite.
Mobil 1 5w30 will be just fine. You could go 0w30 with ill effect, it'll just start easier. If you are in a hot area, Delvac 1 5w40 should give a bit more protection at higher temperatures. But if it runs fine with the 5w30, keep using it. Oils have gotten much better than when these trucks were made.
The 5.8 has a roller cam, so you need not worry about ZDDP levels like us 4.9 guys with flat tappet cams.
