Looking for some feedback on convertible car seats for the back of my crewcab SD. New to the game with this one. I currently have a Graco base installed and is tight enough. We are looking to go to a convertible, but still needs to be rear facing until he is 2 (11 months now). We bought and tried an Evenflo Safemax, but I can't get it tight in the truck, the tighter I make it, the more the shoulder belt pulls it crooked and it gets looser.
I'm assuming some of you guys have been in my shoes before.................What seats have you been able to get tight in the superduty?
it's convertible, fits in everything we own, easy to clean, folds flat, and has a big wide add-on foot for rear facing position. the downsides are that it's not cheap and it's heavy.
Personally we are just holding out for Forward racing only booster seat. What Graco do you have? We have Graco SnugRide 40, and the base is great. Getting close to being too tall, but the reclining feature to move her feet away from the seat back gained us enough. I only want to swap to the next that will last the rest of the time. I just can't believe you can make something to be as protective both forward and rear facing. The engineering in trying to deal with the wreck from either direction, there will be compromises. Not saying their not still safe.
I'm leaning towards the Graco Nautilus for our next seat. Most I know with trucks when rear facing to booster 3-in-1
Shoot I will have this problem next year. Looking forward to a good solution. Currently have a convertible rear facing in the rear middle (lap belt only) and an infant seat without the base next to it so the shoulder belt is not a factor for me yet. This time next year it will be 2 convertibles. not sure where ill put everyone next year but it will work. 4 boys newborn, 1, 6, and 8. last trip the 6 year old sat front middle next trip the 8 year old will. No passenger airbag and the drivers is unhooked.
I've got a booster, a convertible, and a rear facing infant in the back seat with plenty of room to spare. I did notice that when installing the base for the infant seat (passenger side) that there is a certain point that you can't get the belt any tighter or it pulls up like you mentioned. I got mine at an acceptable level where I know it's not going to go flopping around the cab if I get in an accident. The only other issue I have is the convertible (currently rear facing until little man turns 2 in December) is in the middle and to get it tight enough, the bottom of the seat pushes on the folding cup holder and forces it to come out slightly, which limits the leg room for that seat. Fortunately little man didn't inherit my height genes so it doesn't bug him right now.

Wife picked out infant seat and she is cheap. We have a snugride 30. Have friends with both the 35 and 40. Both appear much nicer than the 30. He is knocking on the door of 30 inches, so we need to do something. Buying a 40 would be the simplest and most cost effective option.

I was actually looking at that one this morning wondering if it would be a better choice. It looks to have smaller side bolsters which would be a big plus for loading and unloading kiddo in her focus. Cost is a consideration, but I will pay for something that truly is better. Thanks for the feedback.
My wife also still thinks that these seats should be easy to install. Even with LATCH in her car I still really have to crank on them to get anything tight.
I have used a few of the different Britax seats as my kiddo has grown. In convertible we used the Marathon, a great seat and you can really snug it up the with belt.
It would have been great if the SD has the isofix (latch) connectors, but I have found the Britax seats will still snug up well with the belt in both positions. You do need to get a little creative when upright to get the center strap to connect to something under the seat.

I have mostly given up on LATCH. They are really hard to get tight, and then they are next to impossible to get loose to take the seat out. My wife has a Britax with LATCH connectors that click in and have a button like a seatbelt to release, They work ok. Everything else I use the seatbelt.
I'm not a fan of LATCH, because all of the vehicles we have had with it, it's on the outside seats. I would rather use the middle shoulder belt to restrain the seat base, over having the child on the sides. Only one child right now, so I have that option.
I've tried using this logic to get one of the 6 door super duties, the wife doesn't go with the logic.

Yep I hear you on that I would love one. She is totally on board with the idea but has no clue how involved it would be. We were talking about it the other day and she asked if I had all the parts how long would my truck be down for? Like 2 or 3 weeks right? nope sorry hun more like a year.
If I ever do it I will be getting 2 cabs in good shape to start with and have the cab completed before cutting the frame. 6 door F450 4x4 flatbed widetrack front with a brownie box behind the trans for multiple options. yep I am dreaming
