The majority of vehicles of not have LATCH in the middle. I believe it has to do with width.
I have never had an issue with my graco base and the middle seat location. I'm like most though, you would think a SAD would be large enough to have LATCH at all points.
Anyone else find it funny that the super duty trucks don't have latch bottom anchors OR self locking seat belts in the middle?
I had to go out an buy old fashioned lock off clips for my little guys seat to put him in the middle!
Government doesn't require it in vehicles over 8500#. Ram and GM both apparently have it in all pickups. But ram and GM share cabs from 1/2 ton up to one ton unlike Ford. Still lame and no excuse for the lack of it. Or the lack of a self locking center belt. I will say, I keep my little guy on the right side so 2/3 of the underseat storage is still accessible though.
Wife just bought a Chicco next fit air zip ridiculously expensive seat. I know I can get it tight in her car with latch. Will try it in the truck as it's supposed to have features to make it work better with the seatbelt. Unfortunately, if it works I'll be out another $370. But keeping the little guy safe and comfy is a bigger priority than the money right now.
I hope you guys are using an h-bar. They use to come with all car seats, but now it's seems none of them do since everything but a super duty it seems comes with LATCH. No stores stock h-bars anymore either. A manager at babies-r-us just happen to know that there were a couple stuck in a drawer somewhere and gave me one. Had been there a long time she said. The h-bar will keep the belt tight and the shoulder belt from pulling up on the car seat/base. They are a PITA and I'm sure the reason why everything has the LATCH system.

I know at least 1 of the seats we bought within the past year still came with them. I used them in her HHR because it was easier than the locking seat belt. I do not miss that car...
I am using one of the lock off clips like the H you are showing. He is in an infant seat now, but he will be out of that soon and I need to buy a convertible for my truck. We have a Safety 1st seat for my wifes jeep, but she has latch.
I am looking for a seat that is easy to take in and out and safe for him, maybe something with lock offs built in.
