This is the second time I've heard of the dealer putting in gas when new. Per Ford, the entire fuel system will need to be replaced and the last guy this happened to wasn't happy with that and wanted a new truck. I would to. I can't remember for certain how it turned out, but I remember they fought him on it tooth and nail even though it was their fault.

The dealership is very receptive to swapping out for another truck. Will report back on how it works out..afterwards. What is surprising, is the truck ran great...once started. No pre-detonation or any signs of distress. Bad news is it ran for about 120 miles on the gas, so going to be very expensive to repair...or at least to ensure that there was no damage done.

That's extremely surprising. There must have been mostly diesel in the tank and they topped it off with gas?

Exactly. No way the truck would have run with gas only. Been there. 50\50 gas diesel will let you know real quick.

It sounds like the dealer is going to make it right. Looks like they could have just drained the contaminated fuel, refueled it, and sent you down the road, none the wiser - until much later!

Update: The dealer made it right! They replaced the original truck with a nearly identical one....only 2 differences. The original truck had rear inflatable seat belts, new one doesn't; the new one has the tow technology bundle, old one didn't. Seeing as we rarely have passengers and we do tow a lot, we came out ahead. The dealership ate the small MSRP difference. Extremely happy (especially the wife) that it all worked out in the end and didn't become another horror story!

very glad to see the dealership stepping up with no fuss, that is rare these days. Unfortunately the mistake probably cost someone their job....

Actually...no one lost their job. The attendant who put gasoline in, was written up, but not fired. The GSM wasn't happy about it, but he knew it was a mistake, an accident. Penske Ford will definitely get my business in the future.

I'm glad no one lost their job, that shows a lot of integrity for the management at the dealership...
