Blew out a tire.

Welp this happened a few hours ago. Tire tread blew off up into the wheel well nicking the break line bad enough to where I had no breaks. Luckily it was on a country highway so there wasn't any cars around to run into. Bent the front bracket that keeps the fender in place, pulled out the wiring for the passenger side parking light, scrapped against the bottom corner of the front passenger side fender and took some paint off. Other then that nothing that I've found so far. Just happy the whole tire didn't go out and that I was able to get it off the road safely as I could. Put the spare on and limped her home. Time for some new tires!!

Here's where the tread slammed into the edge of the fender.

Here's where the tread sliced the break line causing me to lose all breaking. And here's where the front fender bracket got pushed forward and bent. You can see where the break fluid was leaking as I was limping it back.

I'd say you got lucky! While nobody wants it to happen, I have seen blowouts and tread separation do much more damage. Good looking truck

1. You got lucky, glad to hear you and the truck are ok... for the most part.
2. Does your e brake work? Might be a good time to get that in working order. FYI if you loose brakes, go to low 1 if auto trans, try to down shift to a lower gear and ease out the clutch if standard. Then slowly apply the e brake to get it to stop. Slam it on to fast and lock up the rear end and hang on for a wild ride.

If you loose a soft of hard brake line, cut, fold shut and use mini vise grips to keep it there, and that should keep fluid in the rest of the system. Always carry mini vice grips and brake fluid in the TB. And an ignition module...

Yes the e brake works good. And thanks for those tips. I've been driving for less than 2 years as I'm only 17. I was in 4th and automatically went into neutral. I didn't even realize I did it my hands went so fast. Then I went for the breaks and realized I had none. Then I rode it out for a couple hundred feet with the clutch in till I pulled into a long driveway of a friend of mines. Luckily I was on a farmers market road and no one else was around besides the houses. One of them being mine luckily. I've never experienced a blowout while driving the truck I have been in a blowout before just not while I was driving. Literally thought I had blown up the differential at first..

Actually when you have a blow out (at speed) you do not want to get on the brakes to fast that can make the tire lock up and make things even worse. So slowing down at a coast or using engine braking is the best. If possible.

Going back into 4th and then 3rd might of helped you slow faster, if you had to. When you get it all fixed go practice (on a controlled environment road course, -legal disclaimer-) some engine braking.

Back dirt road stuff or in a big open field. Get the feel of using the clutch to slow you down. Of course when still rolling and going from 2nd to 1st with a NP-435 will not happen without some grinding.

Once you are in 2nd slowly apply the ebrake and then put it in neutral and use all e brake to stop.

I might have worded that wrong. I didn't stomp on the breaks but I went for them. And I am familiar with down shifting and I can do it but since I've only been driving this truck for 3 weeks I put it in neutral instead as a sort of "oh ****" moment thing.

No harm no foul, I did not think you slammed on the brakes, that would be a pretty normal reaction anyway. I have had a few "OS" moment before, as long as you learn and come out on the good side of it, its all good.

So glad you and your truck are ok. That could have been really bad. Good job!

Is it me, or is that a GM front hubcap? Maybe the wheel was pissed? Glad you made it somewhere safe to stop.
