2007 explorer tpms sensor replacement

I have a 2007 explorer that has a couple tpms sensors that need to be replaced. I've decided to go ahead and replace all 4 as I'm getting new tires put on. Mine currently has the band style sensors. I've looked online and found that the stem style sensors are much cheaper than the band style. Can you use the stem style on the wheels if they were originally installed with the band type?? If so, can you use any stem style that is compatible with ford??? Or.. Do some ford vehicles use different sensors than other ford vehicles?
