I have the instrument cluster apart to re-do it on my '65 CC (sweep speedo). Got a few things I could use some tips on.
1) How did any of you refinish the round bezels for the fuel and temp gauges? They are plastic welded to the clear piece and I don't want to take them off. Clever masking tips?
2) I have the accessory amp and oil pressure gauges for the truck. The PO installed K-Mart gauges in the dash in the factory locations, and I want to replace them with the oem ones. The oem's each have 2 posts on the back. Does it matter which connection goes to which post? The posts are not labeled, AFAIK.
I repainted the main dash bezel and it looks pretty sweet. Not as nice as chrome, but far better than it did before I started.
You could remove the rings and use tiny screws or glue to put them back on. I'd just be real careful and paint them with an artist brush. If you connect the oil pressure gage backwards it will not work and you can just switch the wires (no harm no fault). The amp gage is wired paralell with the Alternator, ignition switch and battery. Better get this one right or you could have charging or hot switch problems. Be sure you have a good ground on the cluster.
