Steering wheel squeaks when I turn to the right...if its straight no noise...as soon as I start turning right it squeaks and just keeps squeaking until I let it back (even if the wheels "aren't" turning but the wheel is just off a bit)
The only thing thats wrong with my column (which is tilt) is that I haven't installed my new signal switch (no time/nervous I'm gonna tear apart column and it wont go back together right heh, truck is my daily so I plan my working on it carefully) do you think that could have anything to do with it or is there something I can oil or? It's starting to drive me nuts.
Remember... -Its just bolts! Work smart and don't smash anything and you will be fine. The guys that get into trouble are those that bash something apart with a BFH because they can't figure out how it comes apart.
When you start pulling it apart you will probably find the noise
The source of most of the noise in steering systems is the loose nut behind the wheel.
Might be the wheel hub against the column. Go ahead and throw a bearing in while you are there and check the up/down clearance. I used a thin washer on mine.
I had that exact same problem. I thought mine was the steering wheel also. When I removed it and lubed it, it still squeaked. Then I popped the hood and discovered that I needed to add some oil to my steering gear box. Now you can hear a pin drop. My truck is a '74 F-100 2wd. Manual--no tilt.

Even if the wheel is turned but still, it squeaks? Sounds like the power steering belt is loose and squealing. Does the noise come from under the hood? - have someone stand outside and listen for the squealing coming from under the hood. Check that the power steering belt is tight and it's full of fluid.
Hrm, always something obvious eh? I always think to complex...I am one of those people that if you ask a very difficult complex problem to BAM I have you an answer, ask me what 4+4 is and I have to think about it heh.
I think I am going to take a minuite tomorrow and see about the power steering belt/fluid. I know its only when I turn right though, going left its fine, but if I turn right it keeps squeeling it doesn't just sqeak a little (ie; this one stretch of highway around here banks right and then left, and the banks are VERY long and it squeaks the whole while going right like a RE RE RE RE RE but not at all going left...I dont really "feel it" like I could in my acura when it was low on fluid) anyway if thats it I'll come back, thank you all and feel really dumb (the worst part is I have a bottle under the car port because I was making fun of my ma's chebby leaking p/s fluid everywhere hehe)
If it's only in one direction, Chado, check your ball joints, tie-rod ends too, see if they need grease. My trucks have always made that noise of the belt or fluid in both directions, or even sitting still, lol. If it's making the noise on a steady curve, then it's a part that's moving the whole time. Does it make the noise at all when you aren't driving and turn the wheel?
Yeah, then check your fluid level and belt tension, wouldn't hurt to lube up the steering gear either. If the fluid is full, through the open window, turn your wheel with the hood up and the cap off the resevoir, look for bubbles and such, or movement at all.
Also need to get the steering a little tighter, just have to tighten steering box screw right? (Too much play in the wheel when going down the road feels like im driving a boat...literally)
