Clutch Z bar bracket flex....normal?
I'm working on the clutch linkage on a 68 4x4 and noticed that when I have a helper step on the clutch, the frame side equalizer bar bracket moves up slightly. The bracket is tight. It appears to be the flange of the frame rail flexing. This is very slight but enough to see. Not the kind of thing you'd ever notice unless you have a helper engaging the clutch but just wondering if this is normal?

I would say no since over time this would have probably cracked something. The only reason it would is because of an overly strong pressure plate. Does the pedal seem excessively hard to push?

Please, when asking questions, list all the pertinent info: Year, series, engine size.
1968 F100 or F250 4WD .. The following parts are 1965/72 F100/250 2WD/4WD & F350.
Clutch equalizer (Z) bar rides on two pivots. Outer pivot bolts to the frame rail.
240/300 I-6 inner pivot is a stud, threads Into the bell housing. 360 inner pivot/bracket bolts to the bell housing.
On each pivot is: 358979-S .. Felt Washer; C1AA-7543-A .. Nylon Bushing; 97474-S .. Snap Ring retains both of these parts to the pivots.
The felt washers compress and/or disintegrate, the nylon bushings crack apart.
When this occurs, the round studs on the pivots become ovate, causing the equalizer bar to wobble on the pivots.
The felt washer and snap rings are obsolete, available NOS. The nylon bushings are available from Ford.
All these parts should be disassembled to check the conditions of the equalizer bar, pivots, felt washers and nylon bushings.
