Fuel tank

Quick question here, I have a 2000 7.3 with a crew cab 6 1/2 foot box. I couldn't find the info in the users manual or online. And I haven't ran the truck out of fuel. But it seems the tank is in the vicinity of 26 gallon capacity. Would this be correct. I've had it down to an eighth of a tank and from there put 22 gallons in. Just wanted to see how close I was on my math from anyone that k ows for sure. Thanks.

I believe it's 29 gallons, but with the harpoon mod, I've squeezed 32 gallons in there. It's nice to go 140 miles before it drops off of full.

I guess what I'll do is run it down to the line and see how much it takes to actually fill it. The fuel station is two miles from home so I can get it pretty low. Maybe that last eighth is bigger than the rest. That's how my other pickup was.

Running out of fuel and introducing air to the injectors is not a good idea. The injectors need the fuel for lubrication. Once an injector is galled, it's ruined. Secondly, when refueling, you can squeeze an extra 6 gallons in after the nozzle clicks off by waiting for the foam to settle and slowly pumping more fuel in.

Sorry, I didn't mean run it all the way out. I've had someone do that to one of our tractors and it wasn't a fun time.

How difficult is it to replace the filler neck on these trucks? When mine fills up to the top, it leaks some onto the ground. But as soon as it bubbles down like you said it stops.

MTP55 have you performed the Harpoon mod? If not that really does make a huge difference refueling.

The filler neck would be fairly easy if your tank was down, I don't know what it's like with it in there. There is some extra pipe inside the tank to prevent filling the tank to the top and end up leaking it as it expands. EPA, DEP or someone's requirement I believe. If you reach in the tank and cut it off it helps with that flowing out the tube when filling problem. If you do the tank mods and your bed bolts let loose easily it's not hard to pull the bed out of way to do that work, that fill tube is very accessible if you do that.

Right. I was just reading the thread on the harpoon deal. Seems like it's a good idea to do in spare time.

Plus when you perform the harpoon mod you can inspect the rubber foot and clean the filters.

If/when you do the harpoon mod, you should do the Hutch mod as well. Welcome to guzzle's In-tank Hutch Mod Web Page

Off topic a bit, but does anyone run one of the engine oil drain valves on their truck? I know dieselorings.com has one from fumoto and Riffraff also has one. Are they worth it?

Just curious. Thought maybe it would make changing oil a little easier and not have to risk messing up threads.
