Just got my 2017 F-350 Crewcab 8ft bed Diesel Dually!! Towing Question
Ok just picked him up, Traded in my old tired 2005 F-350 Diesel Dually, he was tired (195,250 miles) I think I was one of the few that didn't have many problems with the 6.0 (never chipped) Ok 2 question's on the 2017.
Question, Is there a break in period before I can start towing our 18,000 5th wheel? I can not believe the difference just in power and ride of this 2017! I've only got 50 miles on my 2017 (purchased it with 8. It's a XL model with some upgraded options. Got the 4.10 rear end.
2nd question, The exhaust break? I'm just used to the Tow/Haul Mode. When towing do I just put it in Tow/Haul mode and push the button to Exhaust break on?
Thank you very much. I have done a search and can not find a definitive answer.

Try to drive it around some before towing 18k. I put about 200 miles on my dually before pulling 10k. The break-in period is primarily for the differential, apparently, but the M300 in your dually is extremely rugged.
As Epic states, push Tow/Haul, then hit the Exhaust Brake button once. Hitting it twice puts it on auto mode, and a third time turns it off. I find the first setting works best in Tow/Haul.

Pushing the exhaust brake button once will turn it "on;" pushing it again will turn it to "auto," where it will increase braking in order to hold speed during descents. Some have reported strange (and perhaps unsafe) brake behavior when using the "auto" brake with adaptive cruise control.

I did the 1K prior to towing, some here have not however. Do it if you can, pretty cheap insurance even if it doesn't really do anything.
T/H mode with one click on the engine brake button works nicely, I'd personally like to see even more resistance on the engine brake, but maybe I tow heavier than most?.
Good luck and Congrats on your new truck!

Agreed.
I am still getting familiar with the various tow/brake combinations. So far I have found myself locking out gears to get a little more brake.
Also coming out of exhaust braking in the lower gears at lower speeds it seems to take too long to upshift when I move to the accelerator again.
I likely need more time to experiment with the tow/brake combos.

I have a friend who started towing with his at 500 miles.
I like the exhaust brake. Use tow/haul when i hook up. I have found that hitting the button 1 time when towing helps with slowing down. It also will cause you to downshift when you hit the brakes. When in the mountains I hit the button again for auto braking. When in this mode when you hit the brakes it will hold the speed you are at for the rest of the way downhill. This works for me and I am towing around 16K. I also have the 4.10 and it likes the mountains.

For maximum engine braking, drive in manual mode, and force the shifts down in tow/haul. In D when you lock out a gear, to shift it down, it will flash if the RPMs are to high to shift down, in Tow/Haul, it will rev a bit more on downshift. Max effect is in M mode, and forcing shifts up and down, in tow haul with full engine brake on.
enjoy that new truck. I had a 6.0 with about 180,000 miles I traded in as well. No chip, but monitoring, proper maintenance. No issues to trade in. This truck tows amazing.

I had about 1,100 miles on mine before I towed with it. I pull a 14K pound Fuzion and the truck handles it easily...I use the tow haul mode and put the braking system on and let the engine and tranny do the work. In the 62 to 65 mph range on our flat highways I'll peak out a little over 10 mpg. How about posting some pics of that bad boy and congrats!!
