Lets assume for a moment you need a large extended wheel base SUV type vehicle. Not many choices are there? The new and improved Expedition might be one vehicle you'd consider.... well consider this, top of the line Expedition Platinum MAX 4x4 will cost ya a mear $79,740.
You haven't lived until you've had Collision Avoidance go off at the same time your lane departure alerts.
The collision avoidance flashes a red LED in your eyes that is brighter than the sun, kicks you out of cruise and can activate the brakes. The lane departure sounds a different tone, and the butt vibrators go off

Not distracting at all!
I imagine in the parking lot after a concert, game, movie, etc. it would be impossible to alternate merge do to sensors detecting obstacles.
Imagine NYC pedestrians at crosswalks, or motorcycles in CA lane splitting, etc. The car would make me nervous.

When I last drove a '16 Suburban all of the electronic crap can be turned off.
I just watched a commercial illustrating the tow assist feature...just great it lets the truck back down the boat launch ramp. Another opportunity to update my snapchat/instagram/fakebook page(s).
Plus, in a few years when sensors or other electronics go bad, all the new/fancy features could up a liability.
Park assist, trailer backup assist, collision avoidance, lane keep assist, blind spot alert, on and on.
Even a minor frontend collision repair would be insane with all the electronics in the bumper facia that could be damaged..
Miskey,
I have mixed feelings about all the electronic stuff. I'm actually coming to believe that a lot of it is just as, if not more reliable than the mechanical parts of any given vehicle. However, outside of the backup camera, which I think is a pretty handy gadget, especially when you are trying to connect a trailer by yourself. Most of the rest of the crap is a crutch for bad drivers. I do a lot of driving on the job, 4-5k a month, and have for years. It's absolutely pathetic how many people on our roads have no business driving a bicycle, much less a motor vehicle.
Like many... my concern is new gadgets that directly affect the vehicle operation.
I'm OK with passive effects but not anything that will change the vehicle operation... there's enough of that already. Remember when seat belts had to be buckled first in order to start you car? How'd that work out?
Seems to me that all these bells and whistles aren't helping the morons that rely on those sensors anyway.
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed a HUGE increase in the amount of cars driving in "stealth mode" without their headlights on? I see at least 2-3 cars each time I'm on the highway at night clueless that they're almost invisible from the rear.
Personally, I can't wait for Armageddon, the 4 horsemen or whoever else my mother used to threaten me with. My gut feeling is that not only will everyone that frequents this site survive such an event, we're probably going to thrive!
