well I haven't been around here much as it has been a busy spring on the farm and the old 7.3 got put to the test this spring so of course now it needs some love. My water pump started leaking the other day so I am looking for opinions on which pump is the best and I would also like to put on a coolant filter at the same time so I would like some help on the best way to go about that. I have changed the water pump on my other 7.3 about 2 years ago but I didn't know about installing a filtration system at the time. So I am atleast familiar with the installation process. Thanks in advance, Luke
Look into swapping the water pump from a international 4700 with a T444 onto your F series truck.
The water pump itself has a built in coolant filter. It takes some modifications to get it to work but it's do able.
If you do some searching you should be able to find a write up or two.
Aside from there's a company that makes pretty much what I described for the f series trucks. (I can't remember which company at the moment.) Its significantly more than the IH pump though.
Seams like all water pumps are made in china now. I have had napa and advance auto parts and they were all made in china and all leaked in a short period of time. Dieselsite was recommended to me by people here. I called and they said the cast was china and assembled in USA. I have not tried that one yet. Make sure you get life time warranty.
I can now change a water pump pdq.
The duralast actually do last lol... the cheap part on them is the gasket if you get an OEM water pump gasket your set average live span in the fleet has been ??? they haven't failed yet but most are over the 100K with them minus my work truck I installed that one a year ago still good but not the same mileage or time the other pumps have been running on the 7.3's/6.0/6.0 Vortec's/5.4's/6.8/5.3/4.7 at work so I would and have bought a Duralast pump on my OBS and has been great.
It's not cheap at about 360 bucks, but it's a really nice clean kit. Everything seems like good quality as well. I had it running on my last motor for about 6 months, and swapped it to my replacement motor when I found out my last motor was no good.
Building your own coolant filter kit would probably be pretty easy and cheap as said before though. I like this kit because there is less "clutter" and it's pretty easy to install. It comes at a higher price though.
Well I was in the city today so I stopped by the local international dealer and pulled the trigger on their pump. I guess we'll see how this goes and I'll update after the install. The pump won't be in until next week tho. And I think I'll build my own filter kit for my other truck that I did the pump on a few years ago
90 degree elbow. 3/8 thread to 5/8 hose barb. For the heater hose that was previously on the top of the pump. Longer hose required here.
1 inch thread to 1 inch barb for the hose that runs to the degas bottle. I just shortened off the top end of the stock hose and hooked the bottom to that barb on the pump because it had a nice pre bent shape to it already
Belt clearance after grinding that part down while it was mounted in the truck
