I have a Factory Tech valve body that I bought many years ago but never installed. My Trans is working great, but I now have to pull it to replace the OEM gray torque converter seal. It started leaking on a trip back from Washington, DC, while pulling the 10K lb camper. It was dripping on the exhaust and making a ton of smoke. How embarrassing. Only a two hour trip and it started with only an hour left to go. I lost so little fluid, it still was in the normal fill range by the time I got home.
So, since I'm pulling it anyway, I was thinking of finally putting that valve body in. However, looking around the net, there are some mixed reviews on it since I bought it. What is the current consensus? Should I go ahead and use it or go get something like Transgo VB kit? It would be nice to have crisper shifts.
My Excursion has a 6.8 2 valve engine, 4R100 trans, 4WD, 4.56 gears, and a 6.0 cooler with a Derale thermostat inline. Trans fluid is clean and in good shape and has been changed every 30K miles. The truck has 96k miles on the odometer. The truck use is 90% towing the camper 2 to 3 times a month in season 50 to 250 miles at a time each way.
Edit: I checked the VB and it is one that is signed with Gregg's initials in sharpie on the side. i remember that I talked to him about what I wanted (Primarily towing) and he apparently made it up for me. Made in December 2009.
