I have a 2017 F450 with the factory brake controller, my 2008 F450 would play nice with my electric over hydraulic actuator in my heavy duty equipment trailer but the 2017 WILL NOT! The 2017 sends a signal every 2-3 seconds and my actuator interprets this as a "apply light braking every 2-3 seconds". We've tried the, for lack of a better term "filter" that supposedly makes later model Chevy's and Fords work, but it doesn't. I hate to say it but I think I may need to abandon the factory one, which I like, for an aftermarket unit.
Has anyone else had to do this and is there a plug and play solution? I'm moving and very busy, and with all the tech in these trucks I'm leery of splicing into something that is microprocessor controlled or monitored. In other words I don't want to muck it up.
Attached photo, was an emergency move at 30,000 GCVW with NO trailer brakes!
I could try plugging it into the 2011 Raptor, in fact I'll do that, can't hook it up. It seems to be sending a 7v signal down the line perhaps asking, are you still there?
I didn't check the plugs in the back but they are different. The Raptor will apply the brakes normally with the manual switches. The 2017 also works fine with my standard electric brakes on my other trailer.
Hmm ill have to watch mine next week I don't remember ever seeing that pulse on my display, I run regular electric brakes. You may need to take it to the dealer for trouble shooting, but knowing most dealer that would mean going with the trailer to show them what it is doing. Here is another post about the same issue. https://www.f150forum.com/f82/traile...-truck-349345/
if you can actually see the pulse being sent on the screen, it's not an "are you there" check.. the screen is going to only show actual braking requests. Possible that your brake pedal sensor is actually misadjusted, and it's actually producing a very light request every time you hit any sort of bump?
Thanks but it's when I select manual braking with the controller, it pulses as well. I'm going to put an aftermarket controller in for the time being, I just sold my house and have too many military vehicles and about 50 tons of parts to move under a deadline. If I can get them to play nice later I will and post the fix. Thanks for all the input!
