Hi guys,
I want to buy an F-150, but can't afford these newer ones. I really like the '97-up, 4.6L, supercab, long bed trucks but they seem to be at least $10k to more like $14k.
What year did Ford start with multi-port fuel injection? I've heard '86, '89, and '93. What was the correct year?
I need a truck to hold two motorcycles in the back, two guys, and some gear. I need one that is really reliable, and also maybe able to get more than 14 mpg on the highway with the bikes in the back, traveling at 75 mph. Which one do you guys recommend? I was trying to spend less than $5k if possible? Thanks for any advice on good years/engines to hunt for. I do need supercab, longbed, and A/C. Thanks again.
Brian
I would suggest the 300 inline six. You can get one for cheap because it is the standard equipment engine and they are bulletproof. Check out the message board for the inline six in the post "high mileage king" many in there well over 200,000 miles. They have tons of torque and are great on gas. I know that EFI started on the trucks in 87. Hope it helps.

OK so look for the 300 inline-6. What years were those available with fuel-injection too? I'm guessing from '87 to '96? Thanks so much for the advice.
Oh, also, did Ford make an FI, F-150, 300-6 with supercab and longbed?
Thanks again
Brian
The 300 and 302 get similar gas milage in a F-150..but the 351 is alil worse. My 300 gets about 16 city 18 highway. It is a very very reliable engine. And yes I believe all engines went to EFI in 87, be careful though because I think some 86 models had EFI and in 87 95% of them were EFI, ford was trying to get rid of any carbs they had left. The 300 was available until 96' I wouldn't recomend getting the Mazda tranny if your going to tow either, get the automatic because the ZR tranny is rare. The 300 is great for towing, its not a quick engine but it has pleanty of torque. Check out the inline six posts.
