Brochures have typos. I do not consider mirrors, as is traditional practice, when considering body width. Escape is 72", Edge is 76", Explorer is 79" but used to be 75", Expedition is 81.6" which is wider than it's ever been before.

The 83.6" is with mirrors folded. Ford screwed up their numbers....this happens.

Big old American iron from the 60's and 70's forward, cars and trucks both, stayed right at 80" to fit on roads, parking spaces, and car wash racks. It was kind of a "rule" in American car and truck manufacturing to stay at 80" or less. Hummers and Raptors are rare exceptions...and obviously dually pickups break the rule. Compact cars were always 65-70" wide and everything else is in between. I've been into car width specs since 1962 when I was 10 years old and reading road tests.

It's all good. Expeditions are about 80" wide, give or take 2". Plus mirrors Mirrors don't count and screw up statistics because they can vary so much.

looks like I will be keeping my 2008 a very long time.
These prices are nuts. $70K crazy.

The xlts are 50k(though still not cheap) and for the most part are price competetive for the feature content.

My first was a 97 EB 4x4. Loved that truck, we still have it in fact. Even the newer ones look good IMO.

If price is an issue, buy a one year used model. I paid $34k for my limited and love it. Excellent condition. Still under warrrantee. And even had new tires.

Used/certified 2015-16 models are really a great deal these days, and I think the rebates on 2017's are up to $9000 or something really big to clear the lots...in addition to other discounts (I would get X plan thru Ford employee friends).

I don't want a vehicle as big as an Expy, but if I was in the market, I would be shopping for a new 2017 or certified used '16 right now.
