Yesterday, the right rear brake light was stuck on ( just the right) and the right turn signal wouldn't work, no attempt...not even the flasher. Today, I put a new bulb in and turn signals work, brake light is unstuck but doesn't illuminate when the brake is pressed. Left side is working perfectly. Tried another new bulb and had the same result. Just for grins, I put the original bulb back in and had the same original problem. One bulb, the brake light doesn't work and another bulb, it's stuck on. Even tried reseating the connector. Anybody ever see anything like this before I break out the ohm meter and start chasing wires?
If the turnsignal works, that tells me the wiring and the bulb are good from the steering column all the way back. I believe you have a turnsignal switch problem. That is where the brake signal and the flasher signal get mixed together and sent to the rear. The brake and the turnsignal use the same wiring and the same bulb filament in the back.
That makes sense, for now the issue has magically fixed itself but I'll get a new turn signal mechanism anyway. Just strange how the issue changes by just Changing bulbs.
If it happens again move the turn signal switch back and forth a few times and check again.

Yep, it's definitely the turn signal mechanism. Started acting up again tonight on my way home from work. Wiggled the turn signals and the right brake light came back. I'll be ordering a new switch tomorrow.

If the truck has been setting for a bit the contacts can get a film on then and cause issues.
You can try to spray contact cleaner in the switch and work it left & right to see if that will buy you some time before you have to change it out.

Just to close this thread out, it was the turn signal switch. I finally got around to changing it out today and everything works as it should now. Thanks to everyone that helped out.
