20+" Chrome Rims

Hey guys, I love my $2500, 20" tires and rims. Have a 2003 Expy. Try to find nice looking aafter market rims for the 17" tire, 135mm, 6-lug rim Ford decided to put on all 2003's. There are none. That 6 lug is an odd size I was told my all the tire dealers I called.

The rims that came with my Expy are ugly and cheap looking, that is why I went the 20" route. I personally feel the 20" rim and tire fills the wheel well nicely.
So there is my opinion....

I trade in my 2000 for a 2003. My wife and I loved the basic chrome rims that came with the 2000.

The basic rims on the 03 xlt look a little thin. Our EB has the Bright Aluminum wheels, but there is soooo much break dust they don't stay bright very long.

Personally, I have seen both styles that I like. I guess it really boils down to what you like and how well it is designed. I'm personally going to put 23" rims on my 1998 EB. I have seen folks use the wrong style of rim and it look awful. I'm going to do my very best to choose rims that look good on my truck (which has never been off-road, and will never go off-road). I bought my truck for the size, not the off-road ability. I only use my 4x4 in the snow (and then the stock tires and wheels will be back on. All I can say is that whatever your taste is, go for it!!! Expy's are good looking trucks and to me they look great either way.

I like the big wheel look , although some are a little too much. I plan to purchase a set of 22's for my expy ( XLT ) with SUV low profile tires. All you FORD fans have to admit , those Harley Davidson's with the factory 20's look real good.

This is great. LMFAOI just had to get new tires and the guy told me that my Expedition would look “tight” with the 20” for $1,800. I asked him that if I did not have the 20” on would my Expedition look “loose”. I do not understand spending the money for a 4X4 and putting on useless tires. It is like lowering a duly, which seems to be big in Arizona. On the other hand, having a 20” lift that you need an elevator to get into the cab is not much better. I put some 305/60R-17 Nitto’s on the Expedition and it make it ride so much better, but I still have a sidewall!

You use the term useless like the truck is no longer driveable with big rims. Also 20" are not big rims. To me a truck with factory tires is no more "useful" than 24" wheels, or for that matter 15" wheels. You then speak of the price of the wheels - You bought a $30,000+ truck to drive off road? Seems it's a little hypocritcal to say that $1800 for wheels is stupid but driving an expensive SUV in the mud is smart.

Dub = 20” rims

This is my personal opinion on this subject. I do not see the reason why someone would spend the extra money on a 4 X 4 just to slam it and put on dubs. I would not of had a 4 X 4 and that would and could of paid for the modification.

The HD F-150 is an awesome looking truck with dub’s. It is correctly placed with the truck and makes it look more aggressive.

PLEASE Too each his own! If I can slap some 22's on and I enjoy them WHO CARES?!?!?
If I want to go wheeling, I'm sure as hell not going to take my Navigator? That's what the TubeFrame RockBuggy that sits on my trailer is for .

Oh- I'm sorry, looks like we have a bunch of whinners who balk at $2000 at a set of wheels and tires. I've busted my *** for what I have, buy what I like, and remember folks, your sorry asses only live once!!

If I had a dime for every knuckle head that said "what a waste of 4wd". Guess what, If you bought a Expedition or Navi to go ANYWHERE offroad, IMHO your as stupid as a ROCK!

Well said. If a person can work for something, and enjoy it, more power to them.

Not to change the subject but...

Well, I'm certainly not stupid as a rock but I do live on a "rock".

I bought by 03 Expy to get to some of the most pristine beaches in the world. I take my truck off road in some of the most gnarly "roads" through the lava fields here in Hawaii just to enjoy the beach. I use the term road verrrrrrrry loosely. I've got the bent (useless anyway) stock running boards to prove it. I run across the sand, over rocks, ruts, been damn near vertical and sideways. Crazy stuff for a $35K truck but hey, I got 4 kids and a love for the water.

Careful what you say and how you say it. Just cause you don't go off road doesn't mean the trucks can't handle it.

BTW, the 03 Expy holds its own off-road very well. If you know how to drive, the truck will get you most anywhere a sane, family man would need to take his family. Come on over...let's go wheeling...on my 17"s.

Hey guys we all purchased our trucks for different reasons. I have 4 kids and I needed room so I chose the Expy. My mother lives on a 2 mile dirt road and I hate driving my Expy on it ( don't want to get it dirty ). You can find these trucks slammed as a lowrider or sitting tall as a monster truck all at the owners preference, which pleases some and irritate others .
These trucks were designed rugged enough to go off road , or refined with enough luxury to stay within the city streets. The most important thing that we all should agree on is getting our money worth. Use your truck for the purpose you intended to and be happy.

Hey buzzard I'll explain what a dub is. Back in the early 80's people who smoked marijuana bought it in small plastic bags called sacs. These sacs came in a variety of sizes , but the most popular sizes were the nickel , dime , and dub ( 20 ) sac. So when 20 inch rims came about I guess someone got clever and deemed them dubs which on the street means 20.
