In 1976, I was the perfect combination of poor and stupid... I was making minimum Wage and I got to work on a Motorcycle everyday until I gotta job that entailed driving for an hour to and from work. Then the bike died a horrible death. I bought a Gremlin for $75.00. It had been rolled a couple of times so it had a sheet of plywood with Portholes cut in it. And it only had one gear.... 1st, no reverse. I parked strategically everyday. I drove that car for 5 years. With no Tabs or registration. I was driving with the Angels back then. It passed on in 1980, I parked it on a street and walked away. Good Times......

It would seem several of us have had Gremlins in our past. Suffice it to say i was a little different in 1980. Hanging out with some friends one warm summer night enjoying adult beverages and herbal supplements when a kid from a neighboring high school pulled up in a turquoise Gremlin. As we talked about his car that he was obviously proud of he said it would do 120. I said if that ugly car will do 120 i would ride on top of it. Little did i know his dad owned a trucking company and had plenty of money which he shared freely with his son. He had stuffed a built 350 and a 5 speed under the hood. I climbed on top and he took off. The windows were down so i had a good grip. He hit a local road with a good straight away and managed 105 before letting off. I was too young and stupid to be scared and thought it was awesome. In retaliation for the ugly car comment he drove through one of those rotating brush car washes before going back to the gathering spot. It was shut down but i still got soaked from the wet brushes.
