Busted My Clutch Linkage
Yesterday I was driving homeward when the simple act of pushing in the clutch peddle caused a *crack*. Well, a couple of lights later the clutch came WAY up toward the dash and eventually it extended as far up as it could. All the while it was getting a heck of a lot harder to operate... Duh.
Nursed the Gimpster back home and got to the end of the driveway. The problem is this little piston or shock absorber type thing on the linkage. The casing is made of frigging plastic! What were they thinking?
I am wondering if this breaking is common and I want to know if it is related to my cruise control dying a few months ago. Perhaps it houses a switch to it or something.
The burning question is what is some rinkydink plastic thing doing on my Hard-Time Truck???
Had to have it towed in this morning and will have to rearrange my work schedule. Yuck.
Thanks,

Busted My Clutch Linkage
Usually the problem is low clutch pedal on the 6 speeds. Sounds like your clutch master cylinder came apart somehow. Anyway the fix should be the same. Ford sells a clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder kit, part # 2C3Z-7C522-CA. It is basically the whole hydraulic system for the clutch, comes prebled. Trust me don't try just getting the master cylinder it is very hard to bleed the air out of the system. Mine only cost $116. It is very easy to install, only took me 1 hour.
Search this forum for the "low clutch pedal" problem this should give you a good idea what your up against. Ford has a history of clutch problems on these trucks.
