I picked up two of these along with some SBC parts from Summit. Here is my question it looks like I can just cut out a section of hose in front of the fuel pump and install it with a couple of clamps. Have you guys had good luck with that approach? Is that hose 5/16 ID? The truck is a 2000 auto.
Why not?... If no pre pump filter setup yet, it can't hurt. Besides, even n If the OEM is 3/8, home difficult would it be to install a 5/16 line from tank to pump...
I was trying to get some input form someone who has done this mod. I would hait to cut the line and find that it's not going to work for some reason. Like the ID of the hose is not 5/16" or??
I did the mods, but retained the original factory fuel line.
Here is the answer to my question, The hard fuel line is 5/16" and it matches the filter and the pump. What you want to do is replace the line between the pump and the hard line. Its about a foot. Assemble the filter and the fuel to fit. You want to the fuel injection type clamps. Make sure you check the fit before your start. The the other things is ware a shirt that you do not want to see again. Glove may help but not much when you have diesel running down your forearms! First you need something to plug the fuel line. I used a gasket sealant adapter. Once you free the hose from the fuel pump you might want to plug it before you drown. Get the filter line and clamps fully assembled. You will need a knife to split the original hose to free it form the metal line. Once it starts to leak Install the pump end of the assembly pull the hose off the metal line and install the remaining end. Tighten the clamps and clean up the mess boyz. You r good to go unless you installed your filler backward.
