Yea, I'm on the tail end of Gen X/Y, right before millenials...and I still can't stand social networks. Its all bull**** narcissism usually. But there's some great groups for hobbies of mine, so I'm on it for that and to see what my little nephews are up to.

Back on track...I feel like I'm getting old. There's no way I'm tuning this truck and voiding that warranty. The first time you blow a turbo or injector and have to pay the parts and labor out of pocket...yikes.

Plus, its 440/925 already, I know, as a man, there's no such thing as enough power. But, there is such a thing as protecting my retirement savings lol. Maybe I'll do this at 100k miles...

That is GDP, they did some revisions today and got it too 523/1219 and still were trying to get around some factory limiters.

Keep in mind:
1. The torque converter nearly doubles the output torque when taking off from a stop.
2. At 925 ft-lbs, that's 1850 ft-lbs
3. The 6R140 transmission is rated for 1400 ft-lbs of input torque (10*140) is the "140" in "6R140"
4. Ford limits the torque in 1st gear (and in 2nd and 3rd for SRW) so the stock setup doesn't exceed 1400 ft-lbs on the trans
5. Is you tune to 1219 ft-lbs and don't limit the torque when taking off, you could have 2438 ft-lbs on the output side of the torque converter.

The negative consequences should be obvious.

2nd issue...
If you tow heavy, there is adequate cooling for the stock config, but it does easily hit 225* (thus engaging the LOUD fan) climbing large hills even if it isn't that hot out (75*).
1. I think the engine will get too hot if it is tuned significantly.
2. I'm even more confident that the turbo will get too hot, and it sits right on top.

No tune for me. QED.

Well this is with the SOTF and on level 5 which is not recommended for towing, yes this would be a ticking time bomb towing with that kind of hp and tq. As for the engine and turbo getting too hot I can't see why it being tuned would make any difference, if you were doing a lot of WOT driving it could, but the previous generation 6.7s haven't have any "heat" issues from being tuned.

please explain this idea that torque is doubled with TC? This would show on dynos and even if true could be tuned not to occur. The max torque of the engine does not occur at "taking off". I had a tuned 2011 and the transmission in these trucks is stronger than all of them and I've had them all. I made about 1100 in the '11 to the tire and did not have transmission issues for the 41,000 it was tuned. Sold it with 42,000 and the truck was strong. I drive on hot tune(H&S) and drive it like my Porsche Turbo in the city. This fear that tuning a truck is going destroy it festers on threads like this unnecessarily and scares people away from something they would enjoy. Also if you're scared it won't last or to scared to do it just don't do it you don't have to talk about it. Some people like to drive in the slow lane and get 42MPG and some have a pair.

Agree with TXGold76! Have always put tuners and deletes on every Diesel I've owned and haven't had problems. Main thing watch EGT. If you think driving your 2017 is fun add 250hp and 200TQ its a BLAST!!!!

TCs show a "perceived" TQ multiplication on dynos when theyre unlocked and they flash/stall up when you first stand on the gas. Kinda similar to dumping a clutch if a clutch had some elasticity effect. They don't actually multiply tq. They simply momentarily allow the motor to rev higher(into more of the powerband) before the fluid coupling effect happens.

We are in the same age group, and I could not agree with you more regarding leaving it alone. This of course is personal preference for many. I have avoided FB completely. I do agree though..a lot of the info for these sorts of hobbies is on FB. I will continue to resist as long as possible though.

See http://www.justanswer.com/ford/2g08h...e-in-mark.html and many other resources on TC multiplication. Dyno tests don't typically show engine power below TC stall speed.
