Cam phaser oil pressure issue
Ji there, new to the forum. for awhile I heard a horrid timing chain rattle. I finally ordered the cloyes kit and installed it my self. Checked 983933 times the timing marks were on time. Now when it runs it running ( if you could even say that) so bad i wouldnt even want to go around the back yard. It pings, missfires, and white smoke out the passenger tailpipe. (dual exhaust) ive gotten two opinions from other garages its been towed to and both say just put a motor in it. But i cant possiblky think that because it didnt have this issue before parts were installed. Im leaning torwards the Updated dorman phasers i got are junk. but in the back of my mind im thinking the oil passeges to the phaser are clogged due to the chain guid being in a million pieces everywhere but none past the pickup screen. I believe its bizzare that the phaser is the only thing with what the garages said is a oil delivery problem. Im desperate at this point! they qouted 4800 for just the motor from jasper.... not saying i would buy a used one and do all the freshening up while its out just looking to see if anyone else had issue or and reccomendations. thanks! jake

oh wow
what all did you replace . even junk phasors should have run good for awhile.Sounds like timing done wrong .At the end of the timing job you should have turned crankshaft by hand clockwise two full rev's to prove no valve to piston contact . Chains may have been put on wrong . Broken guides-- should have dropped oil pan and cleaned it out .
Notice single link on 6oclock gear dot, keyway at 11 . cams must face as per book on 1 and 5 .
Note phasor on passenger side has R up , phasor on drivers side has L up ..
Chains must have side away from tensioner held tight .
look at ford makuloco on you tube on timing

If there were pieces of tensioner and or partials showing, the system should have been cleaned out.
Otherwise they block screens and get into cam bearing journals etc.
You end up with issues later even if the chains were put on correct.
When you work on a VCT system its not a fast and easy job because in must all be done correctly or you have failure.
A shop may not even want to risk a job like this going bad later and tell you to just replace the motor.
Your into tearing the motor down now to see what other damage has been done along with redoing the cam phasers.
This cost labor and parts over again and extra.
The costs total can get to half a new motor now.
I've seen others get into this predicament before.
They take the job to lightly, not do the research, and go from the frying pan into the fire. Then get upset about the outcome.
Good luck.
