I don't know if it's a new thing or if I've just noticed it but when I activate the OD off function the tranny drops into 3rd and the TC remains locked. This continues until/unless I slow down enough to drop into 2nd gear, then no TC lock when it upshifts to 3rd. There is a live tune in the PCM that came with the truck if that makes a difference. Is this a problem waiting to get worse?
The shift strategy may have been different n my '02, but when I hit OD Off the TC would unlock and downshift to 3rd, then the TC would lock up again about 2 or 3 seconds after the downshift.
I got this education when I *thought* I was shifting gears in the 4R100, but some of those were TC lockup and vice-versa.
I used Torque Pro to monitor GEAR of the transmission while driving. Some "Shifts" were TC, etc.
My first custom tunes from Gearhead had a problem with TC lockup and banged the transmission. When I called and told them, he said "oh yeah we changed how that works, but for some reason we sent you the old style"
The next tune up shifted quite smoothly.
Moral of the story? Monitor the gears if you want to know which "shift" is gears or TC, and there are tunes floating around that don't shift nicely
