Im in the process of replacing the front floor sections of the cab, looks like pretty good access to get into the back side of dash and strip out most of the cut and paste old wiring. Read about some real pita access issues. You guys think I should strip out now? planning on reworking/ rewiring everything as no clue if anything worked as it was not a runner.
"Stripping" out everything is the easy part. Replacing things and getting everything back together and working again is harder. I'd say if you are at a point now where you could do the under dash wiring, go for it. If you are just going to take everything apart under your dash, and come back to the re-wiring later, (maybe much later who really knows), I'd say wait.
As you already know, your wiring looks like a mess. In addition, there appears to be a rust issue under dash as well. Strip out the instrument cluster and all the switches before you deal with the metal. While you are at it, be certain that your windshield opening is sound. The water came in from somewhere.
Generally, with the seat out, the underdash access isn't too bad. The floor swap may help some as well.
Think Ill hold off then till Im ready to deal with underside, and just continue with rust repair. Underdash rust is easy to pinpoint, Washington rain, pinhole in cowl vent. Thanks for the input.
I agree. Strip out the cab completely. Then repair or replace all the rusty metal inside and out. Getting up under the dash is a PITA. Make sure that you wear a respirator and google at least.
