Steaming Seat Foam

I have seen several You Tube videos where folks have used a garment steamer to re-vitalize the foam in car seats. The foam swells back to its original (or near original) shape.

Has anyone on this forum used the procedure and what were the results?

Thanks.

Tom

I have not used a garment steamer to swell foam but my father in law is an auto upholstery professional and he (and I) uses steam to expand seat foam, shrink or soften vinyl and relax cloth covers depending on the material. He has a pro steam generator. It may work if you can get a good dose of steam on the area you are working.

I bought a steamer on eBay which has its reservoir and heating element in a unit which is placed on the floor. A long hose and handle delivers the steam where you need it. It was truly amazing to watch the sagging seat foam expand back to nearly original shape and all the wrinkles disappear.

I guess the real question is how long will this re-vitalization of the foam last?

that's what we use. It seems to hold up quite well. We don't get call backs. Glad it worked out
